the small bedroom

We tend to call this ‘the small bedroom’, but it is comfortably big enough for two single beds. The ceiling is low (under six feet), however. This would not have been a problem when the room was first built, we imagine - the back entrance door (downstairs, into the sitting room) is only 5' 3" - as people were smaller then.

The room below (now part of the North Cottage) was a Victorian schoolroom at one time and has the highest ceiling in the building. So we lie when we say the small South Cottage bedroom has a low ceiling - it actually has a high floor! But the headroom is certainly less than in the large bedroom!

People who have stayed here on their own tell us they love this room as a place of retreat: secluded, safe, cosy.
